Naturally Colored, Handcrafted Wooden Cutting Board
Our end grain cutting boards are designed for every day use and can easily last a lifetime of heavy cutting with the proper care. Note: This board is made-to-order with a production time of 5-7 business days. Wood grain will differ from what is shown in the pictures because every piece of wood has varying characteristics. The design will be at least 95% identical to the original in terms of wood species placement and dimensions.
Every plank of wood has been meticulously handpicked from lumberyards which adhere to sustainable sourcing methods. Once milled and squared up, the various wood species are glued and clamped for 12 hours before surfacing through a planer/drum sander. The resulting face grain board is cross cut into multiple uniform strips. Each strip is turned 90 degrees on edge so the end grain is presented as the cutting surface and then glued and clamped again for another 12 hours. Surfacing the resulting end grain board takes hours of work to remove any potential tool marks and evidence of drum sanding before the edges are rounded and handles are routed. After a thorough sanding process where all surfaces are sanded from 80 grit to 220 grit prior to being wet sanded to further remove the raised grain. This prevents the cutting board from becoming rough when exposed to moisture. All of our cutting boards are soaked in a food-safe mineral oil which saturates the grain fibers and prevents external moisture from penetrating the surface.

What exactly is an end grain cutting board?
End grain cutting boards are constructed from vertically oriented grain fibers and are considered to be the best in terms of cutting board surfaces. The surface is comprised of portions of tree trunks of various species, each dimensionally milled and laminated together into one cutting board. If you look closely you'll actually see the tree rings in each piece! This vertical grain orientation is what makes the board virtually scratch resistant as the knife edge slips into the vertical fibers which split apart temporarily like cutting into the bristles of a toothbrush. We use only the densest of domestic and exotic hardwood species which also adds to the longevity of the board. Don't let the aesthetics and exquisite workmanship fool you. This board was specifically made with durability in mind!
What sets our boards apart from the competition?
Our quality and high level of detail; the use of a variety of premium wood species which are meticulously sourced for ideal grain orientation (quarter sawn/rift sawn over flat sawn) to prevent wood movement, and our ability to custom engrave any of our products with text, a logo, or even a photo of your choosing! All boards are made in-house and each undergoes a thorough sanding/finishing process to remove all tool marks and other unnatural defects. Our experience and proven track record in producing high quality cutting boards is why Dattaray Lane (formerly San Diego Cutting Boards) is considered to be unmatched in quality with our unique blend of utility and artistry.
